Lubbock personal injury attorney offers safety tips regarding passenger vans.
Lubbock, Texas (Lubbock personal injury attorney reports) - The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently published an article regarding the safety of passenger vans. These large vehicles are often used by organizations and companies (such as church youth groups, daycare facilities, senior centers, and airport shuttle services) to transport up to fifteen people at one time. Unfortunately, these vehicles present significant safety risks; passenger vans have a higher risk of crashes and rollovers than many other vehicles. Research conducted by the NHTSA shows that this increased risk is often due to inexperienced drivers, improperly sized and/or inflated tires, and incorrectly loaded cargo or passengers. Therefore, the NHTSA provides safety tips regarding passenger vans on its website.
Passenger vans handle differently than smaller passenger vehicles because they are longer, higher, and wider than other passenger vehicles. This requires drivers to make certain accommodations, such as relying more heavily on side mirrors when changing lanes, increasing the following distance when driving behind a car, and increasing the time and distance when braking. The NHTSA advises drivers of passenger vans to: (1) refrain from using a passenger van as a school bus; (2) check the tires for proper inflation; (3) make sure passengers use seat belts; (4) drive slowly; and (5) refrain from overloading the van since improperly loaded cargo or passengers can alter the van’s center of gravity.
If you or a loved one has been injured in a traffic accident involving a passenger van, you may wish to speak to a Lubbock personal injury attorney about the situation. If so, contact the Lubbock auto accident lawyers at http://www.fadduollaw.com - Lubbock personal injury attorneys.
